Coolest day for over a month

The ridge of high pressure, that has been building for two days, continues to give an air flow from a cooler northwesterly direction. The maximum temperature yesterday was 17.0C, over 5C below the July mean. The frequent showers meant that the temperature oscillated 2C to 5C during the daylight hours. The rainfall total was moderate at 2.2mm. Overnight the thermometer dropped to a minimum of 8.4C, which is more than 3C below the July mean. Sunshine from dawn meant that the temperature recovered well to 13.7C at 08.00.
